
SPRINGFIELD – Rene J. Vadnais, 60, a proud "Hungry Hill Boy" of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Westfield on May 19, 1965, a beloved son of the late Florian A. Vadnais who was Called Home on July 1, 1995 and Rose M. (Setterstrom) Vadnais who was Called Home on September 5, 2018. He was raised on Miller Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield where he loved to hang out at Van Horn Park, graduated from Putnam High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission. Rene was a longtime member of the Melha Shrine in Springfield where he was a 33 Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and was always proud to be driving his 1971 Chevy Chevelle Malibu in the Melha Shrine Vintage Auto Unit as well as attending local Cruise Nights. He was a member of the Marconi Club in Springfield and also a proud season ticket holder of the Springfield Thunderbirds. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Diana J. (Sullivan) Vadnais. They were married on April 24, 1993 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and they were blessed with over 32 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving and devoted son, Timothy F. Vadnais of Springfield; his beloved mother in law, Barbara I. (Wilbur) Sullivan of Springfield; his brother, Bryant K. Vadnais of Easthampton; his dear sister in law, Patricia A. Piela of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, many friends, and extended family members. He will also be sadly missed by his feline friend, Jasper. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear father in law, Richard L. Sullivan who was Called Home on 2005; and his dear brother in law, Kenneth Piela who was Called Home on 2022. His funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
