Obituary

Betty Holliday Redus, 88, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, December 13, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating. Her son, John Redus, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home on Saturday.

Mrs. Redus was born October 28, 1937, in Vernon, Alabama, to the late John Thomas & Addie Lee Atkins Holliday. She graduated high school in Vernon and moved to the community in 1967 from Douglasville. In 1971, she purchased a building with Marian Lee on South Grant Street and opened Merle Norman Cosmetics. After outgrowing the building a few years later, she purchased The Jolly Jeweler from Herbert Moore. For 46 years, she owned and operated the business as a faithful downtown merchant. She directed many weddings and was active with the Downtown Business Association, serving as President and winning the Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Jim Carlton Sunday school class. She also worked with the Kindergarten program at FBC alongside Rita Pryor and Nancy Kimball.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sandra Redus McCord & Sikes of Fitzgerald, John Daniel Redus & Carol of Holly Springs, NC and Holly Redus Miller & Gavin of Newnan; grandchildren: Michael Coffey & Heather, Katy Heninger Calhoun & Chris, Kurt Heninger, Kaleb Heninger & Ansley, Andrew Redus, Aaron Redus & Bronwyn, Abby Redus, Addie Miller, Austin Miller, and Aiden Miller; and great-grandchildren: Blake Coffey, Mia Coffey, Gregory Calhoun, Laura Lee Calhoun, Harper Calhoun, Reed Heninger, Rollins Heninger, Allie Quinn Heninger, and Lottie Heninger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Redus; a daughter, Dawn Redus Mixon; a sister, Jean Carnes; and special friend, Harvey Nichols.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the compassionate care given their mother by a host of sitters over the last several years: Joyce Robinson, Lisa Jones, Debbie Hobbs, Ida Ferguson, Elaine Lane, Debra Haughton, Geraldine Wright, Ivy Lanier, and Brenda Austin as well as to the nurses and staff of Traditions Hospice for their comforting ministry.
