Carolyn Anne Morgan, née Matteson, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 18, 1942, she grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island, later making her lifelong home in Greenville, where she raised her family and built a life grounded in care, dedication, and quiet strength.
She is survived by her four children and five grandchildren, each of whom held a meaningful place in her life and brought her great pride.
Carolyn devoted much of her career to serving others, working as a bus driver for special needs children — a position she held with patience, compassion, and deep commitment. Later, she became the senior van driver for the Town of Smithfield and the Smithfield Senior Center, where she was well known for her reliability, her warm smile, and the gentle way she cared for the people she transported.
Carolyn was an active and engaged member of her community. She proudly served for many years with the Smithfield Lions Club, volunteered during local elections as a poll worker, and worked to help maintain the town’s cemeteries. Fiercely independent and a loyal friend, she was the type of person who showed up — for her town, for her neighbors, and for those she loved.
She found peace by the water, especially at Wallum Lake in Rhode Island and Newfound Lake in New Hampshire — places that reflected the calm and steadiness she brought into the world. In her later years, Carolyn faced dementia with enduring strength. She spent her final years under the compassionate care of Lincolnwood Rehabilitation Center in North Providence, Rhode Island.
Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity of spirit, and a life lived in service to others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 11:30am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation Monday, December 15, 2025, 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dementia Society of America or the Smithfield Lion's Club, P.O. Box 378, Greenville, RI 02828 are welcomed.
