Obituary

Alice Cañez Prado, age 91, of Ventura, California, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Ventura, California. Alice was born in Brawley, California, on May 10, 1934. She went to Santa Paula High School and graduated in 1952. She later married Lupe, the love of her life, and moved from Santa Paula to Ventura. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. She was a room mother, campfire leader, talented cake maker, and crafter, among many other talents. She
became involved in church activities at Mission Basilica San Buenaventura as a catechist, Extraordinary Minister of Communion to the Sick, member of the Altar Society and Blue Army, godparent to those in RCIA, and a good friend to fellow parishioners.
Alice, also known as “YaYa” by her great grandchildren, is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth, Eleanor, and Shirley, her sister Rita (Tom) and brothers Marty and Raymond. Also, 5 grandchildren, Zach Dunn, Zeb Dunn (Janey), Zeius Dunn, Candace Arellanes, Carissa Arellanes, 8 great-grandchildren, Owen Dunn, River Dunn, L. Cale Manes, Lola Dunn, Pierce Dunn, Adalynn Dunn, Maverick Dunn, Juniper Dunn, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in
death by her husband, Lupe, parents, Mary and George, siblings, Rafael Salazar, George Salazar Jr., Eugene Salazar, and many nieces and nephews.
Per Alice’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mission Basilica San Buenaventura “Building Fund,” 211 East Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her loving neighbors, doctors, therapists and the many people she befriended.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025 from 4 to 8pm in JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Fr. Tom Elewaut Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 11:00am in Mission Basilica San Buenaventura Roman Catholic Mission, 211 E. Main Street, Ventura. Interment will then
immediately follow at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, H Street, Oxnard.
