
Dr. Michael Twomey, a resident of Dunedin, Florida, and beloved husband of the late Jeraldine A. (Judson) Twomey, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025. He was 82 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on July 11, 1943, he was the cherished son of the late Joseph E. and Mary E. (Nugent) Twomey. Dr. Twomey proudly served in the United States Army, entering the military on July 20, 1970, and receiving his Honorable Discharge from Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, on July 19, 1972. In recognition of his exemplary service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two Overseas Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Gallantry Cross.
Dr. Twomey earned his medical degree from Tufts University and dedicated his career to serving his community as a General and Vascular Surgeon. He held the position of Chief of Surgery at both Lawrence General Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital, where he was deeply respected by colleagues and patients alike.
A voracious reader and lover of all types of music, Michael was endlessly curious and always eager to learn. He loved spending time with his family and made friends easily throughout his life. His warmth, humor, and generosity will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; his sons, John (Hallie) and Brian; his grandchildren, Connor, Ethan, Gabby, and Matias; his great-granddaughter, Cora; his brother, Joe; and his sister, Maryanne. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jerry, and his grandson, CJ.
Visitation will be held at the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by interment at West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover. A gathering will take place at Salvatore’s in Lawrence from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
