Obituary

Robert J. "Mooney" "Bobby" Cella, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 84 years of age.

Bobby was born in Boston on October 15, 1941, a son of the late Paul A. Cella and Margaret G. (Mulhern) Cella. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Bobby was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service and worked most of his career in the Union Square neighborhood of Somerville. He retired in 2005 from the Post Office Square facility in Boston following 32 years of dedicated service to his country.

Bobby enjoyed his summers in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with family and friends. He was always tinkering with a project and could make something out of nothing. In his spare and quiet time, he enjoyed writing poetry. Most of all, he enjoyed all the special moments spent with his wife and children and took great pride watching over his grandson and great-grandchildren.

Bobby is the beloved husband of 61 years to Jane B. (Cullen) Cella. He is the devoted father of John Cella, Nicole Cella and Alyshya Cella and her husband Timothy Lawton. He is the loving Papa to Christopher Robichaud and his great-grandchildren Kennedy Dighton, Brody Lawton, James Lawton, Jackson Sullivan, Ryan Robichaud and Aiden Robichaud. He is the dear brother of Joan Carr, Bernadette Donahue and the late Paul Cella, Helen Reid and Dorothy Welch. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bobby's Funeral on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
