Obituary

“BostonRetired Boston Police Officer Thomas J. "Tommy" Hennessey, a resident of Stoneham and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on December 1, 2025 at the Winchester Hospital. He was 75 years of age.

Tommy was born in Cambridge on February 8, 1950, a son of the late Joseph Hennessey and Frances (Cunha) Hennessey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1967. He was appointed to the Boston Police Department in 1969 where he served throughout the city and was last assigned to Area A before he retired in 1999. Tommy was an avid Boston Bruins fan and cared about his family above all else. He was a member of the Boston Police Patrolman's Association.

Tommy is the beloved husband of 43 years of Maureen (Helbert) Hennessey. He is the loving father of Sean Hennessey and his wife Chrissy, Brian Hennessey and his wife Candice, Tina Hennessey, and Sandra O'Brien and her husband Kevin. He is the devoted Grumpy to McKenna, Callie, Quinn, and Kendall. He is the dear brother of Mike Hennessey and his wife Lucy, Jack Hennessey and his wife Patti, and the late Donna M. Hartung. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tommy's visiting hours on Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His Funeral Services and burial will be private. TOMMY'S REQUEST WAS THAT AT HIS WAKE, BRUINS/CASUAL ATTIRE OPTIONAL.
