Ralph James "RJ" Lewis, 78, of Anderson died November 27, 2025 at Community Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born August 5, 1947 in St. John's Hospital in Anderson, the son of Howard M. and Ruth E. (Mittank) Lewis.
He was a machine repairman and special machine builder for Guide Lamp division of General Motors for more than 34 years before retiring September 3, 1999. After retiring, he worked as needed at Schleyer Pump in Anderson.
RJ attended Friends Church in Fairmount in his younger years. From 1994-2005, he enjoyed USAC Sprint Car Racing with Payless/Contos Racing, which changes sponsors after about 7 years where he was a tire man and dedicated crew member.
He is survived by his wife, Salome (Miller) Lewis of Anderson whom he married April 25, 1998; children, Douglas (Angela) Lewis of Pendleton; Sherie (Greg) Myers of Conyers, Georgia, Timothy (Gwyn) Lewis of Yorktown and step-children, Michael White of Alexandria, Andrew (Erica) White of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Sierra (Brady) Tibbets, Lauren Lewis, Hailey and Eleanor Myers, Todd (Kyleigh) Staton, Mason Lewis, Asher White, Everly White, Addison White and Ethan White; great grandchildren, Tessa Lewis, Noah Staton, Navy Staton; brother, David (Lucinda) Lewis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John H. Lewis.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Jay Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery in Yorktown.
Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 P.M. Thursday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
