It is with great sadness we announce the death of Eugene R. Nesmith, of Derry, NH. “Gene” passed away on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27, 2025 surrounded by his adoring family. Gene was born June 18, 1942 to Leigh and Eleanor (Raymond) Nesmith. He graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1961 and continued his education by attending and graduating from New Hampshire Technical Institute in 1964. Gene was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era 1965-1967 as an MP and continued to serve in the National Guard.
In 1968, Gene married Shirley Warren of Derry where they made a home and raised their daughter, Jennifer. For 56 years, Gene and Shirley shared love, laughter and a family they cherished above all else. Gene was employed by General Electric Aerospace in Hooksett for 45 years where he retired in 2011. Gene was a homebody. He loved being outside working in his yard and polishing his car, working in his garden or taking Shirley and Jennifer to the beach. Gene loved cars. Watching car racing and sports was one of his favorite pastimes. Reading newspapers and magazines gave Gene hours of enjoyment. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Gene was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 2024. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Malone and her husband Patrick of Hooksett. He was a devoted grandfather to Elizabeth and Emma Malone of Hooksett, his two granddaughters who brought out his brightest smile and filled his heart with love. Gene leaves behind two brothers, Richard Nesmith and his wife Angela of Bedford, and Robert Nesmith and Glenn of Cranston, Rhode Island. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gene will be remembered for living a life of love and kindness by his family and friends. He was a deeply caring and supportive man with a gentle presence, especially as a father. Gene will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 9:00am to 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. The burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, East Derry.
