Obituary

Wallace "Wally" De Souza, 92, of Tiverton, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025 peacefully at home. He was the husband of the late Carol A. (Jerome) De Souza, they had been married for 63 years.

Born in Fall River he was son of the late Antone De Souza. Wally grew up in Little Compton, RI where he held his first job as a caddie at the Sakonnet Golf Club. He later joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Wally and Carol made their early home in California with their two children, before returning to Tiverton in 1977 where they remained. Prior to his retirement in 2007, Wally owned and operated Custom Gunite Pools, Inc. He took great pride in his work, and, more importantly, taking care of his customers. He continued to give guidance and meet his former customers through this past summer, and could never say no.

Wally loved traveling with his wife Carol, dining out with family and friends, and being the host of many 4th of July cookouts! The more the merrier was their motto, and he spent many a day enjoying the kids and their friends swimming in the pool, and in the evening sipping on his Manhattan. Wally was happy with how many children had their first swimming lessons there.

Later in his life he cherished the time he shared with his companion Shirley Chouinard. There was no place or restaurant too far away for him to explore! He was most proud in his role as Papa and truly treasured the time he spent with his four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed!

Survivors include his son: Wayne De Souza and his wife Jeanne of Tiverton; his daughter Karen Westcott and her husband William of Tiverton; four grandchildren: Brian Westcott, Sarah De Souza, Adam De Souza and Patrick Westcott; three great grandchildren: Van De Souza, Levi De Souza and Fern De Souza; three brothers: William De Souza of Oklahoma, and Antone De Souza and David De Souza both of Little Compton; 2 sisters: Carolyn Hill and Irene De Souza both of Little Compton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Anne Gonsalves.

Private services are being arranged.

Wally was a member of the Bristol Elks and their Veterans Committee and spent many hours helping to raise much needed funds. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Bristol Elks Lodge #1860, Veterans Committee, 1 Constitution Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
