Portland, Maine – Alan Reid gently transitioned on November 25, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his son, Justin, his sister, Lori, and devoted visitors—including family who traveled from Pennsylvania during his final month. His passing was peaceful, and his spirit is held close by those he cherished.
Born on December 10, 1960, in Long Island City, New York, he moved to Maine in his childhood. Alan grew up with a deep connection to the outdoors and a fondness for adventure. He often reminisced about his high school days spent at the camp on Massacre Pond and the adventures around Ferry Beach—memories that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Alan’s commitment to service began early. During high school, he was on the Scarborough Student Rescue. He worked as a paramedic in both Boston and Portland, providing skilled and compassionate care. He later continued his dedication to the medical field as a Medical Technician at Maine Medical Center, where he served for over 20 years.
While Alan enjoyed living a life of solitude, one of Alan’s greatest joys was becoming a father to his son, Justin Reid, with his high school sweetheart, Kelly Dimick. Alan passed down his inquisitive nature and his profound love for the outdoors.
The North Maine woods were Alan’s sanctuary. His annual trips to Nahmakanta Lake were especially meaningful. He treasured his time there each year, his first week solo then followed by a second week with Justin around Father’s Day. These trips became a tradition woven with fishing, reflection, and a bond of special time together.
Alan also looked forward to time spent with his cousin, Paul Lenosky, and his family during their summer vacations to Maine, often gathering near Moosehead Lake and embarking on hikes, including treks up Mount Katahdin. The serenity he experienced in these wild spaces was, for him, a glimpse of heaven on earth.
In recent years, Alan created cherished memories with his granddaughter, Ashlyn. Whether planting morning glories together or spending several days side-by-side at a camp in Rangeley, Alan reveled in the chance to share simple, beautiful moments with her.
A lifelong artist, Alan expressed himself through drawing, creating mobiles, and arranging natural materials. He delighted in crafting or selecting meaningful gifts for loved ones, always with care and purpose. His cooking was exceptional, and he especially enjoyed creating Lithuanian dishes. He also enjoyed skiing and had an appreciation for a wide range of books.
Alan is survived by his mother, Carole Reid of Scarborough, Maine; his son, Justin Reid (wife Sarah) and beloved granddaughter, Ashlyn, of Bridgton, Maine; his siblings, Lori Larrabee, Lisa Moore, and Beau Reid; his nephews Josh Larrabee and Sam Larrabee (wife Colleen); the Pennsylvania relatives, and former wife Kelly Reid. He is predeceased by his father, Richard Reid of Scarborough, Maine and his Aunt Ester Tibbets who he considered his grandmother.
Those who knew Alan will remember him for his originality, creativity, simple way of life, and deep reverence for the natural world. May he find everlasting peace in the quiet forests and calm waters he held so dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday Nov. 29th at 1 PM at the Cedar Brook Burial Ground in Limington.
