Katherine Maria Maraqa, 35, of Springfield, MA passed away on October 22, 2025.
Katie was born in Melrose, MA on August 10, 1990. She grew up in Wakefield, MA and lived most of her adult life in Wakefield and South Boston, MA. Katie was the caretaker, best friend, and loving daughter of the late Sonia (Lesiak) Maraqa. It brings the family a little peace knowing that they are now together.
Katie was the one who tried to lift up other people with positive words, using her beautiful voice. She was understanding and supportive. There was no surprise that her plan was to complete college and begin a career helping other people with their life challenges. She was interested in the human mind. She explored the human mind in relation to the world and why people think and act the way they do. Katie met the American Philosopher Daniel Dennet. With her vast knowledge across many areas, and with a diverse group of people, we know that she would have been able to gain the trust of anyone in need of her help.
She was the beloved sister of Fayzeh DeVita and her husband Salvatore DeVita of Medford, Jura Gavelis of Billerica, and Tomas Gavelis of Fitchburg. She was the cherished aunt of Brenna, Veronika, Adelina, Johnny, and Gigi.
