Barry Francis Sylvia, 55, of Acushnet died Thursday August 31, 2006 at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Pearl (Soares) and Manuel P. Sylvia, Jr., he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Sylvia was formerly employed as a cook at Cafe Roma in New Bedford and at the Town Crier in Fairhaven.
Survivors include his close friend, Mary Levitre of Acushnet; a son, Michael Sylvia of Acushnet; three aunts, Irene Westgate, and her husband William, and Edith Silva, all of Fairhaven, and Yvonne Sylvia of Acushnet; a grandson; and many cousins.
He was the nephew of the late David Sylvia and Nelson Silva.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 6-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. A private Burial Service will be held in Acushnet Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
