Gertrude (Sweet) Warner-Clem, 92, of Mansfield died on Sunday September 3, 2006 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt Col. William A. Clem to whom she was married to for 22 years at the time of his death in 2004. Her first husband was the late Martin T. Warner to whom she spent 37 loving years of marriage at the time of his death in 1980.
Born in Attleboro, MA on April 23, 1914 she was a dear daughter of the late H. Louis and Bertha E. (Hofman) Sweet.
Educated in Mansfield she was a graduate of Mansfield High School. She went on to graduate from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. A retired Clerk; she had worked at the Old Country Store in West Mansfield until retiring in 1982. She had formerly worked at the former East Mansfield Post Office and at the R.F. Simmons Co. in Boston.
Gert was a member of the First Christian Church in West Mansfield; where she also served as a former organist. She was a former member of the Mass. Federation of Women’s Club. She was also a former member of the Optimist Club and the Old Mystic Club in Mansfield.
She had lived in Mansfield for 68 years before moving to El Paso, Texas after her retirement in 1982. After 22 years of living in Texas she moved back to her home town of Mansfield in 2004. She was an avid reader. Her most favorite times spent where those with her grandchildren.
She was the devoted mother of Gerald M. Warner of Richmond, Virginia and the late Gayle E. Goodale who died in 1998. She was the cherished grandmother of Ashleigh N. Goodale and William H. Goodale III both of Mansfield. She was the dear sister of the late Elbridge L. Sweet and the late Florence S. Nelson.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday September 7th at 10:00 A.M. in the First Christian Church, 13 Otis St., West Mansfield Village. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday September 6th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
