Robert Shields, Sr., 81, of Centre Rd., Chepachet, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Bayberry Commons. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara M. (Hawkins) Shields. They had been married for 53 years at the time of her death in March, 2021.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Eileen (Chadwick) Shields and brother of the late Joseph and William Shields.
Robert dedicated 31 years of service to Hasbro, where he proudly earned membership in the company’s Quarter Century Club. A familiar and cherished presence at the Glocester Senior Center, he was known for his warm personality and steady friendship.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army, with deployments to Germany during Vietnam.
Robert is survived by his son, Robert Shields, Jr., and his wife, Darlene, of Chepachet, RI. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Patrick, Emily, Ryan, Isabelle Shields, and Benjamin Octeau, as well as two great-grandchildren, Connor and Aiden Octeau, who brought him great joy and his sister-in-law, Dulce Shields of Pawtucket.
Private services were held in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Greenville with burial in Acote’s Hill Cemetery.
