Obituary

Sunshine R. Anders, 44, recently of Framingham, MA, passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA, on November 11, 2025. True to her name, Sunshine brought joy wherever she went. Despite life’s challenges, her warm smile and easy friendship brightened the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Florida and later raised in Richmond, ME, Sunshine excelled as a three-sport athlete and earned induction into the National Honor Society. Richmond High School honored her athletic achievements by retiring her #23 basketball jersey. She went on to compete at the University of Southern Maine, playing varsity basketball and softball and earning NFCA All-Region honors in 2001 and 2002.

Though Florida always felt like home, Sunshine deeply valued her years in New England. She loved sports—both playing and cheering—and found joy in golf, mountain biking, board games, live music, the beach, sunsets, and time with her devoted service dog, Tesla. She also had a special love for Dolly Parton, bright colors, and fun, comfortable clothing.

Sunshine dedicated her career to supporting children and adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities as a Registered Behavior Specialist. She thrived in the classroom, especially with those who needed her most. Even after a terminal cancer diagnosis, her focus remained on caring for others and creating memories with loved ones.

She is survived by her mother, Tamela Simmons; father, Cary Grover; stepfather, Patrick Simmons; siblings Summer Knight (Norman Knight, Jr.), Patrick Miller, Cory Grover and India Gregware (Dan Gregware); stepsister Amber Simmons; nieces Ryan, Sparrow, Mila and Mello; nephew Hemingway; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues, former students; her longtime companion, Bruce Butler; and her best friend, Jessica Metcalf. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Dean Scott and Helen Lewis. A Celebration of Life will be held at Winter Island Park, 50 Winter Island Rd, Salem, MA, on May 16, 2026, to honor Sunshine.
