Evelyn Mae (Johnson) Lohmann: A Life of Love, Laughter, and Service
(March 20, 1948–November 15, 2025)
Evelyn Mae (Johnson) Lohmann, a dedicated Registered Nurse, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 15, 2025, after a long illness. She was 77. Her husband of 55 years, Raymond Lohmann, provided beautiful and tireless care for her until the very end.
Evelyn was born on March 20, 1948 and raised in Rutland, Vermont, by her parents, John and Evelyn (Black) Johnson. After graduating from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Pittsfield, MA, she began her compassionate career as a Registered Nurse at Berkshire Medical Center. In 1969, she married Ray, and together they raised their family in Dalton, MA, until 1998. They later moved to Amherst, NH, where Evelyn worked her final ten years as a nurse at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, touching countless lives with her dedication, kindness, and compassion.
Evelyn’s zest for life was infectious and defined by a joyous spark. She was known for her vibrant love of family, which she nurtured through lively gatherings. An amazing cook, she delighted family, friends, and neighbors with savory dishes and baked goods. She channeled her creativity into oil and watercolor painting, knitting, gardening, and quilting. Evelyn’s playful spirit was evident in her naughty jokes and her fun-loving insistence that everyone wear a themed hat—from turkey and Santa hats to elaborate Kentucky Derby creations—to family gatherings. On a beautiful New England day, she would often exclaim, “It’s a GLORIOUS DAY!” Indeed, Evelyn and all who knew her had an abundance of glorious days.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, Raymond Lohmann. She leaves behind her loving children and their spouses: Kristen and Dan Needham, Scott and Shelly Lohmann, and Dawn Lohmann. Evelyn also leaves her treasured grandchildren: Alek Medic and his fiancée Kelly Shehee, Evelyn Needham, Eileen Needham, and Kayla Kilcrease, as well as her step-grandchildren, Hayden and Mikayla Perry. She was a proud great-grandmother to Kade Ryan Medic, Azra Mae Medic, and Lily Adams who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Laura Johnson; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Lohmann; her sisters-in-law, Carol Johnson and Connie Johnson; and her nephew, John Johnson, and his children, Lindsay Bonazinga and Megan Nelson.
A private family ceremony will be held to honor Evelyn’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Evelyn’s memory to the NH Food Bank, Families in Transition, or a non-profit organization of your choice.
