Sister M. Michael (Veronica) Mahoney, 92, a Sister of Mercy for 70 years, died September 1, 2006 in Windham.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Sister Michael was the daughter of William and Bridget (Bluett) Mahoney.
Sister Michael received her B. A. degree in history from Mt. St. Mary College, Hooksett, New Hampshire. For many years she was a teacher in Catholic elementary schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She taught at St. Patrick School in Berlin; Sacred Heart School in Nashua; St. Thomas Aquinas School in Derry; St. Mary School in Franklin; and St. Patrick School in Pelham, all in New Hampshire. She also taught at St. Ann School in Gloucester, Mass. After she left teaching, Sister Michael served in the Business Office of the Sisters of Mercy in Windham, N.H., a ministry she remained in for more than 25 years.
Family members include her cousins, the McSweeney family of Dorchester, Mass.; the Costello family of Florida and Massachusetts; the Connors family of Massachusetts; the Molloy family of Massachusetts; and the O’Mahoney family in Ireland;
Friends may call at the Sisters of Mercy Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H. from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2006. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Warde Health Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in the chapel.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, N.H.
