Obituary

Peter Russell Henedrson
April 13, 1940 – November 7, 2025

Peter Russell Henderson, age 85, passed away peacefully in Amesbury, Massachusetts on Friday, November 7, 2025, with his loving family and his beloved cat, Nino, by his side. After courageously facing an aggressive form of cancer, Peter is now at rest, having lived a life marked by unwavering loyalty, kindness, and integrity.

Born in Cohasset, Massachusetts on April 13, 1940, Peter grew up in Marshfield, where he attended public schools. At Marshfield High School, he was a standout athlete and served as varsity captain in baseball, basketball, and football. He continued his education at the University of Maine, majoring in history and pitching for the university’s baseball team. After graduating in 1962, Peter enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Topsham, Maine until 1965.

Following his honorable discharge, Peter began his career working in sales support at Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria, Illinois. He later returned to New England, where he became a respected furniture sales representative and eventually opened his own showroom at the Boston Design Center. Known for his reliability and fairness, Peter earned the trust and admiration of everyone who worked with him.

Those who knew Peter well can attest that the “darnedest things” always seemed to find him. Life’s little mishaps and unexpected moments seemed drawn to his good-natured spirit, and he met them with humility and a ready laugh, never letting them diminish his joy or confidence. Despite these occasional twists of fate, Peter remained a gifted athlete throughout his life, running forty miles a week in his younger years and playing tennis at every opportunity. It was on the tennis court that he met his beloved wife, Lynne, and forged many lifelong friendships. Peter’s loyalty, generosity, and steadfast support endeared him to all who knew him. In moments of both celebration and challenge, he stood by his friends, offering wise counsel and a helping hand.

Later in life, Peter took up cycling and could often be seen around town in his signature red vest, ringing his bell as he greeted friends and neighbors along the bike trail. He loved traveling with Lynne, family, and friends, especially to Europe and to their winter home at The Racquet Club of Scottsdale. No matter where he went, Peter’s spirit and character left an indelible mark, and the friends he made along the way became family.

Above all, Peter was devoted to his family. He deeply loved his six children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He found great joy in cheering them on at their games and celebrating their accomplishments. Peter’s unconditional love and steadfast support made him the heart and guiding light of his family.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lynne O’Toole-Henderson; three children from his first marriage, Laurie Strong of Wilbraham, MA, Jeff Henderson of Palmer, MA, and Tracy Henderson of Springfield, MA; three step-daughters whom he loved as his own, Rebecca O’Toole of San Diego, CA, Kimberly Palen of Amesbury, MA, and Lindsay O’Toole of San Diego, CA; his brother, Robert Henderson of Pittsfield, NH; eight grandchildren, Jessica McCord of Palmer, MA, Chase Henderson of Wilbraham, MA, Tyler and Isla Lien of San Diego, CA, Kyle, Dylan, and Emma Palen of Amesbury, MA, and Mia Ford of San Diego, CA; two great-grandchildren, Brogan McCord and Kellen McCord of Palmer, MA; and his beloved cat, Nino.

Peter’s memory will remain a guiding star to all who knew him. He showed us what it means to be a loyal friend, a devoted family member, and a person of true character. He always stood for what was right and inspired others to do the same.
