Obituary

Jayne Rita (Carlow) Batog, 77, of Plainville, Massachusetts, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family and love on Sunday, November 9, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 16, 1948, to the late Paul and Rita Carlow. She grew up in West Roxbury and graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1966. That same year she moved with her family to Franklin, Massachusetts, where she met the love of her life, Danny E. Batog. They were married September 4, 1971, at Saint Mary’s Church in Franklin. Shortly after, she followed her husband, a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army, to his posting in Germany. There they welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer. Jayne’s eight-year career as a diligent and patient Army wife took her to Fort Riley, Kansas, where she and Danny welcomed their son Christian; Fort Benning, Georgia; and the US Army Recruiting Command in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania, she and Danny welcomed their twin daughters, Erin and Laura. After Danny’s retirement from the Army, the family moved to Telford, Pennsylvania, where Jayne worked as a cash office manager for a local retail store. In 1987 she returned with her family to settle in Franklin, Massachusetts. Jayne had a long career in retail management. She retired in 2011 after 14 years managing the Wrentham Antiques Marketplace. She loved meeting and connecting with people and using her passion for history and antiques to create brilliant floor displays for the store. After retirement she focused on her children and grandchildren and was very involved in their daily lives. In 2021 she and her husband moved to Plainville to be midway between their children’s homes.

She loved spending time with her pets and having her grandchildren and family close by. She believed and lived by the adage “it takes a village.” She was a fierce advocate for those she loved and the foundation of her family. Jayne welcomed and accepted everyone into her home and her life without judgement. Her house was known as “Grand Central Station,” as she always had room for her children’s friends and later grandchildren’s friends. She was known as Gramma Jayne or Granny B and was proud to be a Mother and Grandmother to all. She was especially close with her nephew Kevin’s wife, Nicole (Moran) Carlow, and considered her a daughter. She enjoyed playing solitaire and word games. She was an avid reader and was often found at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee and a book. She enjoyed crocheting and loved teaching her children and grandchildren the skill. Some of her favorite memories are attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, plays, and concerts; her siblings’ Thursday night dinners; and her family Sunday dinners, where all were welcome. She especially loved the 2017 trip to Ireland with her siblings and many of her cousins. She enjoyed baking and cooking, along with hosting pool parties and birthday parties with her grandchildren Jax, Ace, Maggie, Kevin, Ben, Dominic, Zoey, Hailey, Maddy, and Trip. Other than with her grandchildren and family, her favorite place was Disney. Jayne and her husband often travelled to Disney, and she and her children and grandchildren Jax, Ace, and Maggie visited Disney World together in 2016.

She was the eldest daughter of seven children. She is preceded in death by her dear sister Carol A. (Carlow) Petersen. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Danny E. Batog. Her siblings Paul Carlow Jr. his wife Peggy of Norfolk, Kevin Carlow of Franklin, MaryAnn Gabriel of Franklin, Thomas Carlow his wife Michelle of Franklin, Christine Conway and her husband Adam of Marshfield. Her children Jennifer Batog of Franklin and Jennifer’s children Jax, Margaret, and Ace, Christian Batog of Plainville, Erin Hunter and her wife Caroline of Attleboro, and Laura Batog of Plainville and her partner David Dibiase of N. Attleboro. Her many chosen grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
