Carmella Angela (Fucci) Nelson a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on November 9, at Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Born July 20, 1932 she attended Malden public schools, and met the love of her life, the late William “Bill” Nelson, while in high school. They were married for more than 71 years and together raised eleven children.
After high school she worked for New England Telephone before devoting almost twenty-five years caring for her family. When her youngest child started school, she began a twenty-five-year career at Century Bank & Trust. As a member of Sacred Hearts Parish, she, along with Bill, served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Pre-Cana Instructor focused on family and raising children. In retirement she joined Bill in his office part-time, enjoyed traveling with Bill to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and especially Italy, and visiting her children and grandchildren across the country.
She was a wonderful cook who loved entertaining friends and family, made the best tiramisu you ever tasted. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed word puzzles, camping with her children when they were young, and loved to read. Her family will miss seeing the enjoyment she and Bill shared dancing together as though they were the only ones on the dance floor.
She is survived by her children William Nelson and partner Sajjad Karim of France, Kathleen Nelson of Peabody, Patricia Mooney and husband Paul of Wilmington, Richard T. Nelson and wife RobynAnn of TX, Robert Nelson and partner Mary Kate Wiley of MO, Christine Nelson-Rivers and wife Jude Rivers of Everett, Paul Nelson and husband Patrick Fitzgerald of Malden, Jeanne Vaillancourt and husband Daniel of NH, Daniel Nelson and wife Dorothy of AZ, sisters Frances Muise of Melrose and Bridget Bryan of Medford, sister-in-law Maureen Newman and her husband Dan of UT, 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Carmella was predeceased by her parents Michael and Catherine (Severino) Fucci, sisters Anna Fitzpatrick, Carol McCarthy, Carolyn Brett, and Charlotte Brickley, brothers Michael Fucci, Jr. and Joseph, sons Michael and Stephen, and infant son Richard Edward.
Her family would like to thank the Staff and Aides at Forestdale Park Senior Living for their care and friendship with Carmella and Bill. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her Funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Saturday November 15th at 9 AM followed by her Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday November 14th from 4-7 PM.
