Obituary




Steven A. Parsons, 79, of Mansfield, died Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Charlene M. Lavin, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.

Born in Melrose on November 1, 1946, Steve was the son of the late Arthur K. and Mildred O. (Kalberg) Parsons. A 1964 graduate of Melrose High School, he earned an associate degree from Wentworth Institute. He went on to serve his country proudly for six years in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam era and later completed his bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University.

Before retiring, Steve worked as an air traffic controller at Logan International Airport in Boston and at New Bedford Regional Airport, where he served as Tower Chief.
A Mansfield resident for the past 26 years, Steve was happiest with his family and loved a good meal out with friends. A devoted Patriots and Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed playing HayDay, traveling, painting, and reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Kendall M. Lavin-Parsons and her fiancé Matthew Cozzi; Kate Gardner and her husband Timothy and their sons Cullen and Flynn; Kara Parsons; and Courtney Parsons. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Parsons.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Monday, November 17, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18th at 12pm in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106, Mansfield). Burial, along with military honors, will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
