GILFORD ---- Frederick ‘Fred’ Sutherland Campbell, 93, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH. While there, he received exceptional care and was loved by many members of the wonderful staff and fellow veterans who became family.
Fred was born on April 20, 1932, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Frederick and Helen (West) Campbell.
He grew up in the San Fernando Valley. Upon graduating from North Hollywood High School, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to Boat Unit 1 that was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. After an honorable discharge he attended college, received a bachelor’s degree and taught in Los Angeles for two years.
In 1967, Fred moved his family to San Jose and taught for the Campbell Union High School District. He received a Master’s degree and continued teaching until his retirement in 1990.
In 1997 Fred and Deanna moved to New Hampshire. Fred loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Often times you could find him learning new things with them at places such as the Science Center, the Planetarium and Battleship Cove, to name a few.
He especially appreciated his church where his faith in Jesus grew and his church became a supportive family. Anyone fortunate enough to have known Fred, had the pleasure of knowing a great man.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Deanna (Reeks) Campbell, daughter Cathleen Campbell Wolford and husband Jeff, son Charles ‘Chuck’ Campbell and wife Chris, along with 7 grandchildren; Ian Campbell, (and fiancé Miranda Villamor), Colin Wolford, Rachael Campbell, Alicia Campbell, Nathan Santti and Ashley Santti.
