QUINEBAUG, CT. – Lieutenant Colonel Vincent E. “Vin” McSweeney (Ret.), 69, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
A retired Connecticut State Police Trooper who served for 29 years, Vin dedicated his life to keeping those he loved safe. He was born on August 27, 1956, to Vincent J. and Bridie (Fitzgibbons) McSweeney in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson in 1975 and later from the Connecticut State Police Academy in 1977.
He met his wife of 45 years Christine (Brisbois) McSweeney in 1973. They married in 1980 and built their family home next door to his parents in Quinebaug shortly afterwards. Vin was a loving father to their son, Vincent F. “Vinnie” McSweeney, spending most of his free time coaching baseball and basketball with Vinnie and his beloved nephew Daniel “Danny” Corrado.
Vin followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Connecticut State Police. Serving with honor and courage, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2007. He began his career working patrol and later served, among other commands, as the Commandant of the Connecticut State Police Academy. At the time of his retirement, he oversaw the Office of Field Operations, where he was responsible for all troops and unit operational activity across the Connecticut State Police Department. Once retired, Vin volunteered as the President of the Quinebaug Fire Department and remained close with the countless friends with whom he served in the state police.
In addition to Chris and Vinnie, Vin is survived by his daughter-in-law, Kellie (O’Connor) McSweeney of Concord, MA. and his two grandchildren, Quinn and Nora. Vin adored his granddaughters, who will forever cherish and miss their Tuesdays with “Papa”. He is also survived by his sister Ellen Corrado and her husband William of Quinebaug, their children Danny and Sarah Corrado, numerous nephews and nieces, and his beloved German Shephard, Riley.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, MA.
