Froso (Poulias) Lalos, 91, of Worcester, died Wednesday, November 5th in Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham. Her husband of 51 years, Constantinos D. Lalos, died in 2007. Froso is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth C. Lalos-Civitarese of Brookline and her granddaughter, Isabella Civitarese of Boston, and many nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Nanis in 2022.
She was born in Giromeri, Epirus, Greece, the daughter of Gregorios and Eleni (Theologi) Poulias and came to Worcester in 1948. Though only 14-years-old at the time, she never forgot that harrowing ocean voyage from Greece to New York.
Froso was a 1954 graduate of the former Commerce High School; and had worked as a secretary in the insurance industry at Travelers and H. Lincoln Harrison for many years, retiring in 1975. She was a long time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, as well as the choir and dance group in her youth. She loved dancing and was especially gifted in Greek Epirotic dances. Highly regarded as a top notch cook she will be remembered for her mastery of Greek cooking; as well as her fondness of gardening and her appreciation of fashion. The aroma of her delicious tiropita (cheese pie) and spanakopita (spinach pie) would often greet her family as soon as they entered her kitchen. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Isabella.
Thanks to her husband, Constantinos' passion for travel, Froso was fortunate enough to have traveled extensively over the years. In fact, they traveled to every continent except for Antarctica !
The family wishes to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Oak Knoll Healthcare Center for the excellent care, kindness and comfort provided to Mrs. Lalos during her stay, you are all deeply appreciated.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 10th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
