Obituary

William J. Mahoney, Sr. of South Natick, Massachusetts, died peacefully in the early morning of November 5, 2025, at the age of 90, with his wife Peggy Mahoney and his grandson, William Miranda at his side. William J. Mahoney was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on January 1, 1935 to the late Desmond W. and Irene (Page) Mahoney. He was always very proud of his years growing up in Beverly and enjoyed sharing those memories with his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was in 1949 when he was on the Briscoe Junior High School Baseball team, which that year went undefeated. He kept that newspaper article and photo in his desk always.

He graduated from Beverly High School in 1952 and always tried to stay in touch with his old classmates, by faithfully attending his class reunions, and always checking in each Thanksgiving to see if Beverly had been victorious over Salem in their football rivalry. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Windlass as a radio man in 1954.

After his service, he attended Bentley College, attending evening classes and he graduated with his B.A. in Accounting in 1966. He worked as a comptroller for Allied Stores at North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody, Massachusetts, and then transferred to Shoppers World in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1967, and worked there for some twenty years. Before retiring, he also worked for the Teamsters Pension Fund in Boston, Massachusetts.

William had many interests, such as his appreciation of music from Mozart to Peter, Paul and Mary and Simon and Garfunkel, to the Beatles, The Eagles, and ABBA. He especially enjoyed history and following politics and was also a very competitive late comer to the sport of running. He had always loved baseball growing up and attended many a game to see the Red Sox play at Fenway Park and the old Boston Braves at Braves Field.

William leaves his cherished wife, Margaret (Peggy) Mahoney (Cullinane) of almost sixty-seven years. He also leaves his beloved children, Caroline Miranda (Mahoney) of Auburndale, Massachusetts, William J. Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Joanne Mahoney of Winthrop, Massachusetts and Ann Fisher (Mahoney) and her husband Douglas Fisher of South Natick, Massachusetts. William was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Lamontagne of Beverly, Massachusetts and his nephew Gerard Lamontagne of Sandwich, Massachusetts.

William J. Mahoney, known as Grandad to his treasured grandchildren, who kept him young in his later years, leaves William Miranda and his wife Nicole Miranda of Attleborough, Massachusetts, Desmond Mahoney of Winthrop, Massachusetts, and Angela Fisher, Henry Fisher and Samuel Fisher of South Natick, Massachusetts. He also leaves his two adored great granddaughters, MacKenzie Grace Miranda and Addison Rose Miranda of Attleborough, Massachusetts, daughters of William and Nicole Miranda.
