Obituary

SACCO, George Lawrence, Jr., age 89, lifetime resident of Medford, attorney, community leader, public servant, husband, father, grandfather, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Sacco was born on July 19, 1936, in Medford, Massachusetts to George L. Sacco, Sr, and Margaret “Mickey” T. (née Zamparelli) Sacco, both of Medford. He graduated from Medford High School, Worcester Academy, Northeastern University, Suffolk University, and Suffolk University Law School.

From 1959 to 1962, Sacco was a member of the Medford School Committee. From 1963 to 1974 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, serving as Assistant Majority Leader, Chair of the House Committee on Federal Financial Assistance and Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means. As a Representative, he was known for fighting for transparency, elder issues, consumer protection, and funding for Medford. In 1974 he was a candidate for Massachusetts Attorney General. George maintained a private law practice in Medford for over 60 years, retiring only a few years ago. He was proud to serve and advocate for his community throughout his distinguished legal career.

George’s commitment to service was second only to his devotion to family. He was the adored husband of Elaine Golden Sacco, daughter of Dr. J. Laurence Golden and Helen (née Murphy) Golden, for 58 years. Theirs was a love story for the ages – only complete when they adopted their two daughters.

George's spirit lives on through his children: Lauren Corcoran and her husband D.J. Corcoran of Lowell, and Allison Grimes and her husband Austin Grimes of Brighton.

George lived life for having a good time and he found his true purpose when he became a grandfather to George Henry and Rita Elaine Corcoran. Both inherited their Grampy’s sense of humor, curiosity, and mischievousness. George Sacco’s legacy for caring for others and having fun lives on through them!

As a longtime community leader, George fought tirelessly for the underserved, believing that through representation and democratic debate, the government should support its citizens.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be sent to the Community Cupboard Food Pantry, c/o The Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford, 147 High Street, Medford, MA 02155.
