Earl A. Scott, 84, of Mattapoisett died August 31, 2006 at home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Carrie (Helliwell) Scott.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Margaret Ann (Ellis) Scott and Edward Spurgeon Scott who were both from Janeville, New Brunswick, Canada, he had lived in Mattapoisett since 1945.
Mr. Scott was formerly employed by New England Telephone Company for 30 years until his retirement. He was also the proprietor of Cranview Trailers in Mattapoisett and the founder of Acecaper Acres Campground in Maine.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Mission Bay and was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the American Theater medal, the European-African Theater medal and the World War II Victory medal.
Mr. Scott was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and a board member of Ellis Cemetery in Mattapoisett.
Survivors include his wife; 4 sons, Mattapoisett Fire Chief Ronald E. Scott, and his wife Janet, Earl A. Scott, Jr., and his wife Gloria, Barry E. Scott, and his wife Michele, all of Mattapoisett, and Peter C. Scott of Fairhaven; a daughter, BethAnn Oliver, and her husband Bill, of Fairhaven; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Alice" Crawford of Clearwater, FL; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Sarah Britton and Roy Helliwell.
A private Graveside Service will be held in Ellis Cemetery, Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Mattapoisett Rescue Inc. P.O. Box 219, Mattapoisett, MA 02739 or to the Southcoast Hospice and Palliative Care, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
