
Raymond F. Elias, 77, of Westport, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his sister Linda's home in Fairhaven, with family by his side.
He was the son of the late William F. Elias, Jr. and the late Almorinda (Machado) Elias.
Mr. Elias was born in Acushnet, grew up in Dartmouth and was a 1967 graduate of Dartmouth High School. He also attended Bristol Community College.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the Navy Ships USS New Jersey BB62, the USS Preble DLG15, and was detached to Navel Supply Support in Vietnam during de-escalation of the war. He attained the rank of Boatswain Mate 2nd Class upon discharge from the service.
He lived in Westport for over 50 years and worked at Lees Market for 48 years until retirement. He was a communicant of Saint John the Baptist Church in Westport. He was also very well-known by many for his involvement with the Westport Youth Basketball League and the Westport Babe Ruth League. He was the first recipient of the Westport Youth Athletic Association Founders Award in 2002. In 2013 the Westport Elementary School Gymnasium was named in his honor.
Survivors include his son: Quentin L. Elias and his wife Audrey of Harvard, MA; his 2 sisters: Nancy Augustine and her husband Robert of Cape Coral, FL and Linda Elias Therrien and her husband Wally of Fairhaven; his 2 grandchildren: Isabella and Lillian Elias; his former wife: Susan J. (Santos) Elias; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:30 A.M.
Calling hours are on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
