Obituary

Fred Crowther, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2025, at the age of 84. Fred was born in Fall River on July 8, 1941 to his late parents Margaret (Clifton) and Fred Crowther.

Beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and teacher, Fred dedicated his life to loving his family and serving his community.

Fred was raised in Wollaston and graduated from North Quincy High School. After graduating from New Hampton School in New Hampshire and Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, Fred received a Master’s degree at Boston State College. He met his wife, Jackie, at Boston State and immediately fell in love with her. They were married for 56 years and their devotion to each other and their family was apparent to anyone who knew them.

Fred was a proud science teacher at Central Middle School in Quincy for 35 years. He was always thrilled to run into his students after they graduated and see what they had accomplished. He also worked in the family business, Granite Five and Ten in Hingham and Holbrook, for many years assisting his parents during summers and school vacations.

After retiring as a teacher, Fred worked at the Brockton Emergency Management Agency. He enjoyed finding a new way to give back to the Brockton community and having another reason to listen to his prized police scanner.

Fred filled his free time with sports, music and most importantly, his family. Fred was a devoted Boston sports fan and coached his son’s baseball teams in Downey Little League. The only activity that could take him away from watching a Red Sox or Patriots game was cheering on his children and grandchildren at their own competitions and games. He was an avid sports card/memorabilia collector and he shared that love with his children and grandchildren through the years. Fred loved music and would sing Frank Sinatra songs to anyone who would listen: students, his family, and even the family dog. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed many fishing trips through the years with his co-teachers from Central Middle School.

Fred was the beloved husband of the late Jackie Crowther, loving father of Tracy Walsh of Hanover, the late Todd and Maria Crowther of Stoughton, and Jonathan Crowther and his wife Nicole Bartolotti of South Weymouth; adored “Baba" of Patrick and Jack Walsh, Katie Halliday, and Sean Crowther; cherished brother of Janet Dumser, and her husband Raymond of La Quinta, California; and treasured friend of Elizabeth Ingram.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123), BROCKTON, on Friday, November 7th from 4-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brockton Visiting Nurse Association.
