WEBSTER - Elizabeth Anna Shier, 86, died Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Christopher House, Worcester, peacefully in her sleep.
She leaves 4 children, Anthony Barnardo and his wife Sheryl, Timothy Barnardo and his wife Tammy, Elizabeth O’Connor and her wife Lisa, and James D. O’Connor, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda, Jennifer, James III, Victoria and Dalton; 9 great-grandchildren, Lilianna, Brayden, Isabella, Gavin, James IV, Quinn, Aurora, Harper, and Isabella; nephews and nieces. Liz, known to her family as mom, gram, gram-mama, and Aunt Minnie was loved and cherished by them all. She was preceded in death by her former husband and companion of over 50 years, James D. O’Connor Sr. of Webster, by her brother Henry Shier and by her sisters Dorothy Edwards and Edna Stanley.
She was born on January 7, 1939 in Queens, NY and raised there, the daughter of Henry and Edna (Rupp) Shier. She moved here in 1979. She was a former member of the Church of the Reconciliation and enjoyed attending church, swimming and shopping.
Liz overcame many obstacles in her earlier years that created the strong and independent mother and grandmother that we all knew and loved. She never missed sending cards and phone calls for everyone’s birthday, anniversary, and other special event.
She was the life of the party and never said no to an invitation. She loved to laugh and enjoy a cold beer. Liz was the “Dancing Queen” at all family gatherings. Before transitioning to living at Christopher House, she created a beautiful home and garden at Golden Heights in Webster that she took great pride in. Liz loved being outdoors, especially spending time by the ocean and in the water.
If you knew Liz, you knew the top 3 things that defined her outside her family and friends were the color purple, seafood (lobster specifically) and strawberries. She will be deeply missed by so many.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 15 in the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with words of remembrance beginning at 2:30 P.M.
