
 
                
                                John James Martin after a long and full life John passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 27, 2025 at the age of 91. Born in Galway, Ireland, was the son of Mary (Broderick) Martin and Laurence Martin.
At the age of 20, John moved to Chelmsford, England and worked there until 1957. He was then best man for his brother Michael on July 15, 1957. John traveled back to his home town of Headford, Ireland stayed there a few weeks, Next John emigrated to Swampscott, MA where he lived with Uncle Tom and aunt Nora (Broderick) Neville. From there he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1962. After the service John worked at KLH in Cambridge, MA building radios and electronics.  
John then met the love of his life Margaret Meehan on a blind date to a Sunday Mass at St Mark's Church in Dorchester, MA, set up by their mutual friend, Margie Joyce.  They married in October 1965 and recently celebrated there 60th wedding anniversary. 
John then left KLH with his friend Charlie and bought Presidential Liquors of Quincy where he worked until the age of 70. John enjoyed dancing with his beautiful bride at many Irish dances over the years. Over the years John and Margaret enjoyed numerous cruises with their friends.  
John was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at many golf courses. With a week away every year for 10 years in Florida with golf buddies.  He especially loved Wampatuck his golf course at home.  John enjoyed being a member of the Irish Cultural Centre of Canton, MA.  He and Margaret supported the ICC working at the yearly festivals, the weekly Friday night dinner, dances and the music seisiuns at the ICC.  John was also a real foodie before his time and enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for his wife Margaret, extended family and friends. 
John is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Meehan) Martin, living sisters Margaret Coote and Bernadette Dooley of Bristol England.  He is predeceased by Maryanne (Martin) McDonagh, Frances Martin, Laurence Martin, Joan (Martin) Hardiman, all of Headford Galway Ireland, and Michael Martin of Chelmsford England. John is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and cousins that all span the continents. 
Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. Dedham, on Sunday, November 2, from 3-7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, November 3, at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Dedham at 10am. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
