
Michael J. Cathcart Sr., at age 40, of South Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on September 25, 2025, in Arizona following a tragic accident.
Born and raised in South Boston, Michael was known for his kind heart, quick wit, and lifelong love of baseball, fishing, and cars. A graduate of Universal Technical Institute in Norwood, he worked as a skilled mechanic and took great pride in his craft.
Michael faced many challenges in his life, but those who knew him will remember his determination, humor, and deep love for his family—especially his children. He was admired for his strength and resilience.
He is survived by his beloved sons, Michael and Daniel Cathcart of Weymouth, and his daughter, Avani Grace. He is also survived by his parents, Walter Scott Cathcart and Patricia Duquette; his brothers Christopher, Timothy Cathcart, and Kevin Ferrara ; and his sister’s Kimberly and Katie Ferrara. Michael was predeceased by his brothers Scott Cathcart and Joseph Ferrara, and his stepmother Kelly Ferrara.
He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory and remember his generous spirit
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Michael’s life on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Casper’s Funeral Home, South Boston.
Michael will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and his passion for working with his hands. Whether he was under the hood of a car, out on the water with a fishing rod, or cheering on a baseball game, he found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. May he rest in peace and be forever remembered with love.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to a local addiction recovery program or shelter, in support of those continuing the journey he once walked.
