Obituary

Carolyn Faye Vassey Brown, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Crisp Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 4PM, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Fitzgerald Church of God in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Her grandchildren will give eulogies. Interment will follow at Mystic Baptist Church cemetery in Mystic, GA, with the Rev. Christopher Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald. Pallbearers will be Cory Vassey, Stuart Vassey, Nathan Vassey, Johnnie Wilson, Stacey Bell, and Howard DuVall.

Mrs. Brown was born August 24, 1949 in Cuthbert, Georgia, to the late Robert Forrest (R.F.) Vassey and Dollie Henson Vassey. Her family moved to Mystic, GA in 1952 where they lived surrounded by aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. She graduated from Irwin County High School in 1967. She met and married Tommy Brown, the love of her life, and they have been inseparable for 58 years. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, joy, and companionship. She and Tommy had two children, Christie and Brian.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and stay-at-home Mom while her children were little. She then chose to go back to school and earned her Bachelor's degree from Valdosta State University. For 35 years, she poured herself into teaching and enriching the young minds of her beloved students. She taught 5th grade for 22 years at Ben Hill Elementary School followed by a 13-year teaching career at Tiftarea Academy. She was blessed to teach two of her grandchildren. In addition to teaching the curriculum, Mrs. Brown touched the lives of many students by sharing her love for God and her love for reading. She was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.

She was Mimi to her four grandchildren, Jackson, Madison, Carter, and Isabelle. They were the light of her world. She loved spending time with them and attended every sporting or school event throughout their years in school. Her unwavering support and love for her family were evident in everything she did. In addition to her love for her family, she loved her animals. She took in and raised many strays throughout her lifetime.

Mrs. Brown touched many lives over the years. She will be remembered for her warmth, kind heart, and nurturing soul. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Brown, daughter, Christie (Todd) Cook; son, Brian (Kelly) Brown; grandchildren: Jackson Cook, Madison Cook, Carter Cook, and Isabelle Brown; an older brother, Bobby (Amy) Vassey of Peachtree City, GA and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Joey Vassey.
