Obituary

John C. Moore, known to family and friends as Jay, peacefully passed away on October 27, 2025, after a long illness. Born in New York City on May 31, 1942, he was the son of William and Catherine (Bodner) Moore. John grew up in Rockaway Beach, NY, attending St. Camillus School and Far Rockaway High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he married the love of his life, Lorraine DiResto, on November 14, 1964. They shared 60 wonderful years together raising two daughters.

In 1978, the family moved to Derry, New Hampshire, where John worked as a mail carrier until his retirement after 38 years of service. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Derry.

John loved reading and made frequent library trips with his daughters. He cherished the ocean, spending his summers riding the waves at Rockaway Beach and later sharing that joy with his grandchildren at Wallis Sands in Rye, NH. He loved music, a good cup of coffee, and making his family—especially his grandchildren—laugh.

John is survived by his wife, Lorraine; eldest daughter, Lorraine; daughter, Pamela Shore, and her husband, John; grandchildren, Matthew Shore and his wife, Olivia Baud, Sadie Shore, and Rose Shore; and his brother, William Moore.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center and Brookhaven Hospice for their compassionate care.

The family will hold private services. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center Activities Program, 8 Peabody Road, Derry, NH 03038.
