Obituary

LEBANON- Richard Allen Smith Jr., born on March 15, 1966, passed away at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough Maine on October 24, 2025. Rick had three sons, Shain, Zachary who is pre-deceased, and Travis and his wife Aimee. His daughter in law- Candice Smith. His grandchildren, Owen, Cooper and Samara. Rick was born into a family of six sisters and one brother: Sandy Fryou, Wanda Smith, Vickie Morse, Valerie Smith, Melody Young, Sherry Smith and Kevin Smith, deceased 2024. Rick later had another sister, Becky Goldstein. His father, Richard A. Smith often called him" tricky dick". His mother, Grace Eleanor (Sprague) Smith could tell you stories of his stubbornness; such as being sick and didn't want to stay inside sneaking out his bedroom window in the rain playing in a wooded area. As a youth, Rick began establishing his work ethic by obtaining a paper route and as an apprentice would work for construction companies. Rick became a carpenter and took joy in building houses. Rick loved to fish and would teach others how to bait the line and clean the fish, he did bow hunting, liked hockey, played cribbage and gin rummey. He loved music often played Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ozzy or Nazareth. Rick demonstrated compassion: by playing with a niece when others wouldn't, by not telling his parents he was bullied due to extra padding put in his knee area and by quitting football as his parents were having it rough. Rick loved lasagna, clams and spicy food. Rick didn't go to doctors until it was urgent. He knew something was wrong for a year and when he finally went, he found out he had metastatic cancer. Rick was a simple man, lived his life as he chose, satisfied with little, enjoyed time with friends, ladies, and bourbon. Rick spoke of his relationship with Jesus Christ and commented that both were carpenters and how he felt he wasn't worthy. I know in that room Jesus Christ was there and ready to take his son to heaven in the tenderness of death. The family would appreciate donations to the Gosnell House in Scarborough Maine, and we wish to thank all of the nurses, volunteers and doctors who assisted our loved one in his final days. Your care and love is greatly appreciated.
