JAY R. CROSS, age 81, a Hingham resident for the past 45 years, died on Friday, Aug. 25th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Mr. Cross was born, raised and educated in Milton. He was a 1943 graduate of Tilton Academy in New Hampshire and he then attended Duke University in North Carolina. Following his service with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he attended UMass/Devens and then graduated in 1953 from the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Cross was an architect by profession and was associated with many architectural firms in the area, retiring in 1994 at the age of 69. He was a lifelong member of the AIA (Architects Institute of America) and was a longtime member of the Old Ship Church in Hingham. He was an avid fan of jazz music and was an accomplished jazz trumpeter.
He leaves his wife Priscilla R. (Bolles) Cross of Hingham, his two sons; William B. Cross of Hingham and Dana Otis Cross of New Orleans, LA, and his two grandchildren; Benjamin and Jenna Cross both of Hingham.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 11:30 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Tuesday from 5-7 PM and prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
The interment will be in the Milton Cemetery.
