
Dr. Edgar B. Greene, a devoted educator, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Friday morning, October 24, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81 years old.
Born on February 3, 1944, Dr. Greene dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of others and his community through education. Over the course of a long and distinguished career, as the former President of now Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, he was an integral part of the development and growth of Ben Hill County and helping shape countless lives who benefited from the education he helped provide. Dr. Greene’s influence lives on through the continuous and long-lasting impact he had as a leader for our community. During his retirement, Dr. Greene also enjoyed a successful career as a beloved realtor in Amelia Island, Florida. His warmth, patience, and wisdom left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dr. Greene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cecilia Prescott Greene; two sons: Bruce Greene and Jody Greene; and daughter, Christy Greene Roberts. He is the grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is brother to Lawton Greene, Coach Charlie Greene, Ray Greene, and Sarah Greene Deuley (sister deceased) as well as uncle to several nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, beginning at 3 PM, with the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. Pallbearers will be Tony Sheffield, Marc Sheffield, Tripp Greene, Parker Greene, Jake Roberts, and Chas Greene.

Dr. Greene’s impact will live on through those he taught, loved, and inspired – a true leader whose influence will continue to ripple through generations.
