Obituary

Mr. Paul F. Mattatall, a resident of Wilmington and beloved husband of Beverly T. (Tarr) Mattatall, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 22, 2025. He was 76 years old.

Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on November 28, 1948, he was the beloved son of the late James and Ruth (Lockhart) Mattatall. Paul had a strong sense of family and community. He was devoted to his wife Beverly, his children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Mr. Mattatall earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston State and later earned a master’s degree from Cambridge College. He retired from the Medford Public School system where he served as a teacher and coach. He put great energy into his role, giving back in many ways to the school he loved. He was a longtime baseball coach, coming up through Medford Senior Babe Ruth and Medford High School junior varsity, before serving as varsity head coach at Medford High School for 12 years. He loved his players and being part of the Medford baseball community.

In his spare time, Paul enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Madison, New Hampshire. He made many dear friends in New Hampshire who became part of his extended family.

Paul will be dearly missed. Besides his beloved wife, Beverly, Paul is survived by his loving children; David S. and his wife Colleen J. Mattatall of Wethersfied, Connecticut, James V. Mattatall and his wife Lindsey J. Peterson of Stoneham and Susan and her husband Patrick Curran of Stoneham, brothers and sisters-in-law; Fred and Barbara Drauschke of Melrose and Ken and Cathy Tarr of Topsfield, cherished grandchildren; Nolan, Emily, Alexander, Isabella, Charlie and Benjamin and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM. Words of remembrance will be given at 4 PM. Interment will be privately held. Donations in Paul's memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 85 E. Concord Street, Ground Floor, Boston, MA 02118.
