Obituary

ALEXANDRIA ----- David Paul Doyle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 21, 1955, in Winchester, MA, the beloved son of Maura (O’Donnell) and John Doyle of Woburn, Massachusetts.

A proud graduate of The Salisbury School (Class of 1973) and Cornell University (Class of 1977). Dave earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering while playing collegiate football. He began his career as a field engineer with Schlumberger Offshore Services, where he spent 15 years, ultimately serving as a manager in the Houma, Louisiana offshore district. After climbing the corporate ladder, Dave realized it wasn’t the life he envisioned. In 1993, he traded his desk for a new adventure, moving his family to New Hampshire, where he, along with his wife Ava, purchased and operated Sun Valley Cottages in Laconia for 30 years. In 2022, they retired to Alexandria, NH, where he enjoyed a peaceful life in the country.

Dave was an active and beloved member of the Laconia community and was a board member of the Lakes Region Tourism Association for many years. He and Ava built lasting friendships with their guests, neighbors and staff.

His interests included sailing, motorcycling, travel, race cars and swimming. He loved watching sunsets over the mountains from his living room and deck, showering outdoors, observing wildlife and studying the stars. Known for his humor and competitive spirit, Dave was a skilled Dominoes player, an enthusiastic Pictionary teammate, and a lifelong sworn enemy of Scrabble. He enjoyed the occasional deep-sea fishing trip and family water gun fights every Easter. He had a talent for instructing people where they should park, embellishing fond memories and chasing off the would-be suiters of his daughters.

Above all, Dave was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and “Poppi.” He adored his grandchildren—stealing noses and nibbling ears in jest—and shared a special bond with his dogs. His generosity, humor and kindness will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ava, his daughters Casey and Lauren and their husbands Dakin and Bob; and his cherished grandchildren Eliza, Julian and Prisca, his mother Maura, sister Marcia and her husband Darren, niece Micaela, along with other nieces, nephews and cousins who will mourn him deeply. He was predeceased by his father, John “Jack” Doyle who we imagine Dave is lovingly fishing with now.
