GILFORD ---- Clinton R. Phelps, 87, of Bacon Drive, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, surrounded by his family at Laconia Rehabilitation Center – Genisis.
Clinton was born on January 29, 1938, in Laconia, NH, the son of the late Gilbert Phelps and Virginia (Weston) Phelps.
Clinton married the love of his life, Winnifred Fletcher, in March of 1960. They raised five wonderful children. Clinton was a strong leader and anchor for the family.
He worked as a very successful salesman in the artesian wells business and retired from Daniels Artesian Wells. Upon retirement Clint and Winnie traveled the entire east coast in their motorhome finally settling for many years in Barefoot Bay, Florida where they had a huge community of friends until moving back to Gilford, NH.
Clinton enjoyed time with family hunting at “ZEBS” the family camp in Sandwich. He enjoyed car racing and playing golf. He may have had more fun causing trouble in the golf cart than playing. Clinton was also known as the “Dock Cop” at the Glendale docks, he loved assisting and talking to all the boaters and Islanders through the busy summer season. Clinton’s quick wit, laughter and personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Clinton is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Winnifred Phelps; sons Michael Phelps and his wife Dawn, James “Jim” Phelps and his wife Lisa; daughters Kimberly Lacasse and her husband Scott, Jennifer Mooney and her significant other Dario Carrara and daughter-in-law Shelley Phelps. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who loved their Bumpa dearly. In addition to his parents, Clinton is predeceased by his son, Dennis Phelps and his brother Karl Phelps.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in Clinton’s name to the Dennis Phelps Memorial Scholarship, 14 Country Club Road Suite 9, Gilford, NH 03249.
