Maria Comcepion Sandoval, age 93, of Norton, formerly of New York and Guatemala, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Born on February 25, 1932, in Sam Marcos, Guatemala she was a loving daughter of the late Gregorio Sandoval and Amelia Escobar Barrios.
Maria grew up in Guatemala, where she spent her early years before coming to America in 1967. She first settled in New York, where she worked as a dedicated nursing assistant for more than thirty years. After retiring, she spent a few years in San Francisco, enjoying the beautiful weather, and a brief time in Indiana before eventually making her home in Norton, where she lived out her later years close to her family.
She was a strong, hardworking woman and devoted mother whose amazing love and sacrifice shaped the lives of all who knew her. As the matriarch and pioneer of her family, she bravely made the journey to America, forever changing the future of her children and generations to come.
A woman of deep faith, she was an active parishioner and volunteer at her church. She loved spending time with her family, listening to Marimba music, and cooking for those she loved-especially her delicious homemade tortillas, which brought everyone together around the table.
She is survived by her beloved children: Carlos Hernandez, Vinicio Hernandez, James Herrera, Alma Rosa Hernandez, Maria Alejandra Rojas, Edna Judith and Elba Arguello. She was the cherished grandmother of twenty-two grandchildren, and is also survived by many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her four brothers and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 27th from 5:00-8:00 P.M.at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street, (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow.
