Hilda A. (Bernardo) Jackson, age 99, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late David F. Jackson, Jr., who died on October 15, 2002 and the devoted mother of the late David C. Jackson, who died on July 21, 2001.
Born in Attleboro MA on August 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Joaquim and Isabel Bernardo. She was raised in Mansfield, MA and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1944. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a member of the Catholic Women’s Club.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed as an Executive Assistant at the Foxboro Company, and later in life employed by Chase Financial Services.
She and her husband resided in Hingham MA for 50 years where she was active with many volunteer and civic activities. She was proudly a Doric Dame at the Massachusetts State House; volunteered at the local library and South Shore Hospital; was active in the Garden Club and volunteered at St Coletta’s School for special needs children.
She and her husband travelled extensively including a favorite trip to Portugal where her parents were born. She loved Cape Cod where she and her husband owned a house in Chatham for 60 years and created many happy memories with family and friends.
She was an avid sports fan, especially her beloved Red Sox and was a Patriots season ticket holder. She also participated in sports in various tennis and golf leagues. She was a voracious reader and always had stacks of books in her home. If she wasn’t reading a book, she was reading the Boston Globe. She loved crossword puzzles and continued to do them late into her life. She was also an expert bridge player.
She was the beloved sister of the late Angelina Alexander and her late husband Jack Alexander of Pawtucket RI; the late Mary DeBaggis and her late husband William DeBaggis of Mansfield; Celeste Jones and her late husband Robert Jones of Mansfield; Jacqueline Tausek Hensley and Don Abel of Attleboro, and John Bernardo and his wife Joyce Bernardo of Norton.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, October 24th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
Her funeral will begin on Saturday, October 25th at 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield
