Obituary

CHICOPEE – David E. Patrie, 92, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on October 24, 1932, a beloved son of the late Armand and Charlotte (Hickory) Patrie. He was raised on Chapel Street in Aldenville, graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Coast Guard. He received the National Defense Service Medal and attained the rank of Engine Man Petty Officer Second Class. He was the Building Superintendent for the Wall Street Journal in Chicopee and previously was a Mason Tender for Piquette and Stebbins in Aldenville. He was a member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337 and the Tigers Athletic Club, both in Chicopee. An active outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and enjoyed boating and camping at the Seaview Campgrounds in Wells, Maine. He was a longtime season ticket holder of the Springfield Thunderbirds and was honored on the ice as a “Local Hometown Hero” for his service to our country. He especially treasured his time on the open road riding his motorcycle, often with his brother, Bob. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends especially Jim and Jean Sullivan of Chicopee . He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Betty Ann (Smith) Patrie. They were married on August 20, 1955 at Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 70 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving and devoted children, David E. Patrie, Jr. of Chicopee, Lynn A. Cote and her husband, Stephen, of West Yarmouth, MA, and Michael D. Patrie and his wife, Karen, of South Windsor, CT; his four cherished grandchildren, Stephen Cote and his wife, Isabel, Katelyn Cote and her partner, Colby Forss, Brendan Patrie, and Tara Patrie and her fiancé, Sam Derico; his cherished great granddaughter, Savannah Lynn Cote; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter-in-law, Kim Patrie; his cherished granddaughter, Hannah Patrie; his four dear brothers, Gerald, Robert, Thomas, James Patrie; and his three dear sisters, Jacqueline Willemain, Janice Demers, and Carol Rogalski. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the wonderful caregivers on the 3rd Floor of the Med/Surge Unit at Holyoke Medical Center for their compassion and care given to David, his wife, and the family. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Coast Guard Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
