Obituary



Domenico Caranfa, of Somerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12th, He was 92. Born in Villalago, L’Aquila, Italy, he was the cherished son of the late Ginevro and Assunta (Lupi) Caranfa. Domenico proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Domenico was a talented cement mason and member of Local 534. He was extremely proud of his work and loved to point out the various landmark buildings he helped construct, including the TD Garden and numerous hospitals. Domenico enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and soccer games on television, but his biggest passion was spending time with family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Domenico was the beloved husband of the late Lina (Grossi) Caranfa. He was the devoted father of Anthony Caranfa and his wife Rose of Medford, Steven Caranfa and his wife Kim of Somerville, and the late Paul Caranfa and his surviving wife Andrea of Reading, and the late Susan Caranfa. He was the loving grandfather of Jennifer, Anthony and his wife Christy, Emily, Layla, and Sabrina, He was the caring great grandfather of Leo, and the dear brother of Clara Jansen and her late husband Joseph. Domenico is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many other loving family members.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Domenico’s family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday, October 16th from 9 AM to 11 AM, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Domenico’s name to the Bedford VAMC, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730, or to Care Dimensions 75 Sylvan Street, B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.
