Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Marie V. (Monette) Goodwin René, 98, of the Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, October 4, 2025. She was born in Ludlow, MA on July 3, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Doherty) Monette. She was raised in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, graduated from the former Cathedral High School in Springfield at the age of 15 and had moved to Forest Park in 1951 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed as an Accounts Payable Clerk with the Chapman Valve Division of the Crane Corporation in Springfield and later worked at the former Rexel Corporation. She was a communicant of Holy Name Church in Springfield. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved first husband, Roscoe W. Goodwin who was Called Home on March 6, 1956; and her beloved second husband, Joseph A. "Al" René who was Called Home on March 7, 2006. She leaves her three loving sons, Richard D. Goodwin and his wife, Karen, of Staffordville, CT, and Robert E. Goodwin and Christopher A. René and his wife, Suzanne, all of Springfield; her three cherished grandchildren, Richard T. Goodwin and his wife, Holly, Rozlynn S. Georgescu and her husband, Bogdan, and Rebecca A. René Tapia and her husband, Salvador; her six cherished great grandchildren, Emily R. and Matthew B. Goodwin, Amanda L. and Nicholas B. Georgescu, Alexander J. Tapia and Jessica D. René; and six cherished great great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Gary T. René; her two dear brothers, Edward P. Monette and Joseph Monette; and her dear sister, Dorothy M. Boduch and her husband, Stanley. Family and friends are invited to attend at Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
