Obituary

James Douglas “Doug” Sargent, 74, of Auburn, NH passed away Friday, October 3, 2025 surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with cancer. Doug was born June 19, 1951 in Exeter, NH and was a son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Knox) Sargent. He was raised and educated in Exeter NH. He received his bachelor’s degree from Barrington College in Rhode Island and went onto achieve his Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha. He had been a resident of Auburn NH since 2009.

Doug proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Major in the US Air Force. He and his family were fortunate to be stationed at numerous bases in the USA and Europe. After his retirement from the Air Force, he continued in the medical laboratory field at several hospitals, most recently at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH retiring as one of the Medical Laboratory Management team.

Throughout his life he enjoyed bowling, recently achieving two perfect games. Doug was an avid hiker, summiting numerous peaks of the NH 4K footers and 50 of the 52 with a view. Kayaking and boating on Squam Lake with friends were also favorite pastimes. He loved traveling throughout Europe and the United States, especially visiting US National Parks and historical sites. Doug actively served his Lord faithfully, most recently at Calvary Bible Church of Derry.

Leaving behind his wife of 51 years, Mary (Bailey) Sargent, sons, Jason Allen Sargent, and Jeffrey Hayes Sargent, his grandsons, James Gabriel Sargent and Alexander Hayes Sargent, brothers, Stephen Sargent and Scott (Patricia) Sargent, sisters, Donna (Larry) Tobyne and Barbara (Mike) MacCrae, as well as several nieces and nephews. His family and friends were very important to him and they remember him fondly for his powerful hugs, generous heart, and steadfast loyalty.

A celebration of his life will be held at Calvary Bible Church in Derry along with interment at NH Veterans Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9188.
