I'm very saddened to announce the passing of my father, Michael Cloherty.
His wake is scheduled for this Tuesday October 7th at the Breslin Funeral home located at 610 Pleasant Street in Malden from 8:30AM to 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Parish Church, 600Pleasant Street, Malden at 10 AM.
Born in Galway as the seventh of ten siblings in 1937. At 17, he went to work at a factory in England for a few months and then returned home. He moved to Boston when he was twenty in 1957. He lived in Chicago and Burbank, California for a few years with stops in Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and San Franscico.
Returning to Boston, he met my mother, Bridget, in 1967 and married her the next year. Their first son, Thomas Sean, was born in July of 1970. They moved to Malden with the house number 117. I was born in July of 1972.
Dad worked for a while at Hood's Milk in Charlestown and then as a Laborer, Local 223. He was a very proud union man.
His future daughter-in-law, my wife, Jennifer, was born in 1977. And his only grandson, Devin, was born in 1997.
After leaving his house for the last time in mid-August, dad spent seven difficult weeks in hospitals and rehab. On September 17, he was taken to Mass General by ambulance where he remained to the end.
Born the seventh sibling, he is now the seventh of his ten siblings to pass on. He is survived by three sisters, Maire, Anne and Barbara.
It is sad but also no surprise that this funeral mass is being held on October 7th.
He will be buried next to his wife Bridget in Forestdale Cemetery in row 37, his birth year.
So, in a way he has now gone full circle, with all those 7's along the way.
I feel this is appropriate since I and all his family and friends feel very lucky to have known him during his life's journey.
