Hugh W. Roberts, 85, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, October 3, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Monday, October 6, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. James Griffin and Tim Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Roberts was born January 18, 1940, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Reason Rafe & Minnie Lou Wheelis Roberts. He began his school career at Lax and attended high school in Ocilla where he played football and baseball. Mr. Roberts was a lifelong CPA beginning his career in 1958 at Quinney and Meeks. He made partner 5 years later at Meeks, Roberts & Spicer and spent over 5 decades with the firm. He owned and operated Hugh Roberts CPA for the past 10 years. Mr. Roberts enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a Gideon, and sang with the gospel group, The Joy Notes for many years. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught the Adult Men’s Sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Charlotte Brogdon Roberts of Irwin County; daughter, Wendy & Jerry Golden of Athens, Alabama; son, James Hugh “Jay” & Sarah Roberts of Irwin County; grandchildren: Aaron Golden, Justin & Kimberly Roberts, Ashlee & Trent Oakes, and Jana & Dillon Hendrix; great-grandchildren: Brodie Oakes, Dakota Oakes, JD Hendrix, Will Roberts, Amzee Oakes, Parker Hendrix, Beau Roberts, and one more on the way. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Amon Roberts, W.B. Roberts, James Barney Roberts, Ralph Mannin Roberts, Troy Roberts, and Harmon Lamar Roberts; and a sister, Margie Horne.
