Obituary

David Peter Swieneski, 76, of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Tufts Medical Center, following recent health complications.

Born in Lowell on September 4, 1949, he was the son of the late Julius and Helen (Avila) Swieneski. He grew up in Lowell’s Back Central neighborhood, where he attended local schools and formed the roots of a lifetime grounded in family, community, and hard work. For the past thirty years, David made his home in Dracut.

David was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts, loved being near the water, and found joy in boating and fishing. A proud New Englander, he was an avid supporter of the Patriots, and though tough and hardworking, he had a soft spot for Hallmark movies. He could always be persuaded by a Harrows chicken pot pie, a treat he never turned down. More than anything, David cherished time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his greatest joy.

He retired in 2018 from Middlesex Community College after more than twenty years in maintenance, where he was respected and appreciated by his coworkers and friends. Earlier in his career, David worked at Honeywell in Lawrence, Raytheon, and Tewksbury State Hospital, dedicating himself to each role with the same quiet diligence that defined his life.

David is survived by his children: David Swieneski and his wife Jenn of Hudson, NH, Rachel Swieneski of Lowell, and Cherilyn Swieneski of Lowell; his cherished grandchildren: Chelsea MacDonald and her husband James, Faith Carbonneau, Aiden Swieneski, Ashlynn Mascetti, and Jacey Wallace; and his adored great-grandchildren: Wesley, Hudson, and Brooks. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, including those he worked alongside at Middlesex Community College. He is also survived by his former wife, Sheila (Gouveia) Perry of Nashua, NH. David was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond A. Swienski and William J. Swieneski.

You are welcome to attend his funeral Mass at 10am on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Saint Anthony's Church, 893 Central St, Lowell, MA 01852, followed by procession to Saint Patrick Cemetery.
